I had surgery in February 2023 for basal cell carcinoma/skin cancer of the forehead at the Skin Cancer Clinic. I had been diagnosed with skin cancer for too long, which resulted in it becoming very advanced.
Due to the fact that I had been diagnosed with breast cancer and was undergoing treatment, as well as a death in a close family member, I didn’t have the energy to take care of my skin cancer. The area of skin cancer had grown very large during this period, and even my own dermatologist was surprised by this deterioration.
I was sent for surgery in public, but it would result in a big difference in my eyebrows. I looked at what other options were available. I found out that Bispebjerg Hospital could offer Mohs surgery, where you only had to undergo one operation and with tissue sparing. However, as I don’t live in the Capital Region of Denmark, this was not an option. Ergo, I had to go private.
Fortunately, I chose to have Mohs treatment privately at the Skin Cancer Clinic. It was important to me that I only had to go through one surgery and get a good result. I was vulnerable during this time and I wish everyone in the same situation could get this treatment. It’s the only right way to do it.
